Primary Grade 2 Curriculum

Religion
The Religion program prepares students for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. Our curriculum teaches the parts of the Liturgy, introduces the components of the Liturgical year: Lent, Holy Week, Advent, and Christmas.
Language Arts
In Language Arts, the curriculum combines reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Students gain an understanding of phonics, grammar, spelling, and comprehension strategies. In addition, the program helps to instill a love of reading, writing, communicating, and fosters creative thinking and good study skills.
Math
The Math program engages students in learning activities designed to help children understand and apply basic mathematical concepts. Through daily review and practice, the students learn to connect these skills to their everyday life. Manipulatives are used to introduce new concepts and emphasis is placed on computation and problem solving.
Science
The Science curriculum introduces the Scientific Method. Students will become lifelong learners who are able to use methods of inquiry to understand the principles of natural science.
Social Studies
The focus of Social Studies in grade 2 is on the types of communities in which our students live, the environment, and laws that govern our society.
